February 2 & 3, 2024

Friday & Saturday | 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If you’ve ever been curious about soft pastels, this beginner workshop is for you. We will cover the nuts and bolts of soft pastels- different types of pastel sticks, the various surfaces, and how to frame your finished pieces. Starting with some fast-paced exercises, you’ll discover a variety of mark-making techniques and the secret to successfully blending colors without ending up with mud.

On the first day, you will learn the step-by-step process of painting by layering pastels on un-sanded paper. Day two, you will be introduced to the power of under paintings as foundations for a strong painting. You will create an underpainting by using alcohol on a sanded surface.  Using the process from day one, you may copy the demo or work from your own photo with assistance from the instructor. Each day, there will be short demos by the instructor & plenty of time to paint on your own.

Join us for a fun workshop as you discover the magic and versatility of pastels!
